01.02.2024

Starting from January 15, 2024, it became possible to validate European patent applications and European patents issued by the European Patent Office (EPO) in Georgia.

39 countries are members of the European Patent Organization, including all 27 EU member states. In addition, one country has the status of “extension state”, and 4 countries have the status of “validation state”.

Georgia becomes the 5th country with validation status.

From January 15, European patent applications and validated European patents will have the same legal force and be subject to the same legal conditions as defined for national patent applications and national patents under the Validation Agreement between EPO and Georgia.

Validation in Georgia is available for all European patent applications or international (PCT) applications filed on or after January 15, 2024.
