Investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine together with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine stopped the scheme of illegal movement of tobacco products through the customs territory of Ukraine.
Searches were conducted on the territory of the customs port in Odesa, during which almost 2.3 million packs of cigarettes were found and seized, the packaging of which did not comply with the current Ukrainian and international legislation.
The estimated value of the seized property is UAH 80 million ($2.9 mln).
According to the investigation, the cigarettes were transported from the Republic of Belarus to the address of non-existent enterprises of Great Britain and Macedonia, with the purpose of further illegal sale in the countries of the European Union.
Earlier, a batch of Belarusian cigarettes smuggled was also detained at the Romanian-Ukrainian border.
