On January 5, 2021, the government of Ukraine approved a draft law on withdrawal from the agreement within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on cooperation in the field of the legal protection of intellectual property and the creation of an Interstate Council on the legal protection of intellectual property.

“This agreement does not correspond to the current state of economic relations between the CIS member states. And the obligations of Ukraine, which arose during the term of the agreement, have been settled”, said a government representative in parliament.

It was also noted that representatives of Ukraine for a long time do not participate in meetings of the Interstate Council, the development of draft international treaties within the CIS, and do not exchange patent and regulatory and methodological documentation in the field of protection of intellectual property.

Earlier, Ukraine withdrew from the agreement on the implementation of a coordinated antimonopoly policy of the CIS countries and dozens of other agreements within the framework of the Commonwealth. Also, Ukraine does not participate in the work of the CIS bodies since 2014.
