On April 27, 2021, the Parliament of Ukraine adopted in the first reading a bill amending the Law On Advertising on advertising of electronic cigarettes and liquids used in electronic cigarettes.
The bill proposes to amend the article of the Law On Advertising, which regulates the advertising of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, trademarks and other intellectual property rights objects under which alcoholic beverages and tobacco products are produced, extending its effect to electronic cigarettes and liquids used in electronic cigarettes.
The Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, determined as the main one for the development of the bill, proposes, when finalizing the bill for the second reading, to extend the law “On Advertising” also to tobacco-containing products for electric heating using an electronically controlled heater and devices for consuming tobacco products without burning them.
Also, e-cigarettes will be subject to the same restrictions on the use of sponsorship activities as alcohol and cigarettes.
E-cigarette advertising will also require the use of warning labels “E-cigarette are harmful to health” and at least 5% of the money they spend on advertising will be directed to the production and distribution of social advertising on the harm of e-cigarette consumption.
