On December 15, 2021, the parliament of Ukraine passed a bill to amend the law “On effective management of copyright holders’ rights and (or) related rights” to ensure the collection of revenue from the rights of collective management organizations.
The purpose of the law is to unblock the activities of collective management organizations in the field of public performance and public announcement of non-dramatic musical works, to avoid the negative consequences of ceasing to pay royalties for Ukrainian artists and the world author community.
Adoption of the bill provides an opportunity for organizations included in the register of collective management organizations to temporarily voluntarily manage the property rights of right holders in respect of which such organizations are authorized to manage by concluding an agreement with users at a rate determined by the collective management organization. accreditation of new collective management organizations.
