The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has announced the inclusion of the Russian language in the list for filing applications for the international protection of trademarks and industrial designs.

However, specific dates have not yet been named.

The working languages for filing applications for the registration of trademarks under the Madrid system and industrial designs under the Hague system are now French, English and Spanish.

Thus, trademarks written in Cyrillic can now be registered worldwide not only in Latin or as a figurative sign, but also as a word sign. This should also reduce the applicants’ costs of translations and operational costs.
