Kazakhstan has expanded its mandatory digital marking system from September 1, 2026. The new requirements apply to dietary supplements and to beer and beer-based beverages sold in bottles.

The rules apply both to products manufactured in Kazakhstan and to goods imported into the country from September 1. Covered products must carry an identification code allowing each individual unit to be tracked through the supply chain.

For dietary supplements, the requirements apply to products with valid registration in Kazakhstan or the Eurasian Economic Union. The scope includes specialized nutrition products, concentrates, vitamin and mineral complexes, syrups and plant extracts.

For beer and beer-based beverages, the marking system is being introduced in stages. Products in kegs have been subject to marking since February 1, 2026, bottled products since September 1, 2026, and products in metal cans will become subject to mandatory marking from January 1, 2027. Data Matrix codes are used for identification.

The system is intended to provide end-to-end traceability from the manufacturer or importer to the final retail purchaser. According to the Kazakh authorities, digital marking should also help reduce the circulation of counterfeit products and limit unfair competition.

Importers, manufacturers and retailers therefore need to adapt their technical and accounting processes to the new requirements. For brand owners, the system may also provide an additional mechanism for controlling legitimate supply chains and distinguishing authentic products from unauthorized goods in the market.
