On October 7, 2020, the European Parliament recognized the Ukrainian seed certification system as equivalent to EU requirements. This will make it easier for Ukrainian producers to export seeds to the EU countries.

In April, the European Commission, based on the results of the examination of the legislation, came to the conclusion that in Ukraine there are norms that ensure the same level and procedure for the examination of seeds, identification, marking, and control, as in the EU.

The decision of the European Commission noted:

– the expediency of recognizing Ukrainian seeds and permission for circulation in the EU;

– stimulating trade in seeds between Ukraine and the EU;

– through the investment of European seed companies in growing seeds in Ukraine, production capacities throughout Europe are diversified, which will reduce the risks of production in one climatic zone;

– recognition of an equivalent certification system will help to support the continued supply of high-quality seeds to the EU.
