The Department of Cyber Police of Ukraine conducted 17 searches in three regions of the country to stop the activities of a criminal group that sold fake Apple products using a network of online stores.
Fraudsters have created more than 50 websites and even opened a retail store to sell counterfeit products.
In the last three months only, 1,500 Ukrainians became buyers of counterfeit products, having bought goods worth more than 1.5 million hryvnias ($57 thousand).
Products were manufactured in China, and in Ukraine, imposters recreated the design of the original packaging of Apple products (including stickers with IMEI).
The investigation established the participation of 11 people in the illegal scheme. Сriminal proceedings under art. 190 (fraud), and Art. 229 (illegal use of the mark for goods and services, company name, qualified indication of the origin of goods) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine were initiated.
