The head of Rospatent Grigoriy Ivliev stated that the Ministry of the Interior initiated about 200 criminal cases to protect copyright, and about the same amount to protect trademarks in 2019.

At the same time, the police did not initiate a single case regarding patent infringement.

The Criminal Code provides for a fine of up to 200 thousand rubles (approximately 3125USD) or an arrest of up to six months for attribution of authorship (plagiarism), which caused major damage to the copyright holder.

For illegal use of objects of copyright or related rights, including the acquisition, storage, transportation of counterfeit copies of works or phonograms for marketing purposes, the violator may face a fine of up to 200 thousand rubles or up to two years in prison.

If a crime is committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, or using official position, or on a particularly large scale, the maximum sentence can be up to six years in prison or a fine of up to 500 thousand rubles.
