As part of the decree of the President of Uzbekistan “On measures to improve the system of protection of intellectual property rights objects”, a number of innovations are being introduced into the procedures for registering IP objects from April 1, 2021.
Thus, restrictions on the registration of trademarks exclusively in the name of legal entities and individuals engaged in entrepreneurial activities are canceled.
Also, the procedure for accelerated examination is being introduced, which provides an opportunity to significantly reduce the time frame for state registration of intellectual property rights objects. The preliminary search for the application is carried out voluntarily.
Additionally, the Intellectual Property Agency may apply outsourcing methods in the process of conducting state examination of applications for IP objects.
In addition, the Agency will compensate the costs of national exporters for the registration abroad of appellations of origin of goods (geographical indications) carried out before January 1, 2025.
Additionally, in 2021–2022, the national registration of trademarks of business entities – exporters, as well as those operating in the field of agriculture and handicrafts will be carried out free of charge, in the total turnover of which the share of exports is more than 60 percent.
