The Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) acceded to the Patent Law Treaty (PLT) on 17 December 2025, marking an important step toward further harmonization of the Eurasian patent system with international standards and enhancing the convenience of procedures for applicants.

The entry into force of the PLT for the EAPO creates additional opportunities to improve the efficiency of the Eurasian patent system.

The Patent Law Treaty is an international agreement administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), aimed at simplifying and harmonizing formal requirements for patent applications and their examination procedures.

Its provisions help reduce administrative burdens, minimize the risk of loss of rights due to formal deficiencies, and make interactions between applicants and patent offices more predictable.

For applicants, this means more flexible and user-friendly procedures, particularly with regard to establishing a filing date, meeting deadlines, and correcting formal deficiencies.
