The Eurasian Patent Office announced that the acceptance of applications for the grant of Eurasian patents for industrial designs will begin from June 1, 2021.

However, not all member countries of the Eurasian Patent Organization have completed the ratification of the corresponding Protocol, and at the beginning, only the territories of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia will be valid for Eurasian patents for industrial designs. After the completion of all procedures, the validity of the patents will be extended to Belarus, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

It will be possible to obtain a Eurasian patent for an industrial design by filing a corresponding application with the EAPO or with the patent office of a member state of the Organization.

If the applicant is not a resident of the EAPO member country, the representation of a patent attorney registered with the Eurasian Office is required.

The term of the patent will be 5 years from the date of filing the application with the possibility of extending the rights for up to 25 years.

The official fee for filing an application for a Eurasian industrial design is 20 thousand Russian rubles ($270) and 15 thousand rubles ($205) for publication and registration of a patent.
