President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a law prohibiting the sale of gadgets in Russia without installed domestic software from July 1, 2020.

According to the new version of the law on consumer protection, it becomes mandatory to preinstall Russian software on smartphones, computers, and televisions with the Smart TV function for sale in Russia.

The list of goods, as well as the procedure for compiling and maintaining a list of Russian programs that device manufacturers are required to pre-install, will be determined by the government.

Arguments for the introduction of new rules were the need to ensure equal conditions for Russian developers on the market and consumer protection.
