The Russian government has submitted to the State Duma a draft law developed by Rospatent on the transfer of intellectual property objects registration documents to electronic form.
Changes to the Civil Code will make possible to obtain titles of protection in electronic form while retaining option of issuing them in paper form. In electronic form will be issued patents, registration certificates for trademark, appellations of the place of origin of goods, topology of integrated circuits, computer programs, databases.
In addition, it is proposed to introduce the possibility of supplementing applications with the Rospatent with a three-dimensional model of an object in electronic form. The Russian Patent Office expects that the transition to the use of 3D models will reduce the time for examination and expand the capabilities of applicants who design and model their inventions in electronic form.
“We are fully prepared to issue patents in electronic form, and the system for comparing 3D models of the claimed objects is already being tested in 10 engineering centers”, Head of Rospatent Grigory Ivliev said.
