On June 14, 2019, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine published resolution with updated fees for registration of intellectual property rights objects.
According to the document, fees for state registration of trademarks, patents and copyrights will be rising sharply in Ukraine.
The novelty is the introduction of a 20% discount in case of filing applications for the registration in electronic form.
In addition, the maximum term of a patent validity for an industrial design increases from 15 to 25 years.
However, the fees are still quite low compared with other countries. For example, the cost of registering a TM in one class in Ukraine will be $152 in case of paper filing and $122 in electronic. In the USA, the cost of registering a TM is $225, in Belarus – $455, Kazakhstan – $185, and Russia – $160.
The new schedule of official fees will come into force on July 19th.
The current rates were enacted in 2004 when the exchange rate of the Ukrainian national currency was 5.05 UAH/USD, compared with 26.4 UAH/USD for today.
